Aldi food not fresh

Thought I’d give Aldi another go and stocked up on lots of fruit and veg.  Same problem as last time that the items begin to spoil after a few days in the fridge.  This is why I’m not a big fan. It seems like a false economy if half of it ends up in the bin.
Have others had the same experience?

No. Have shopped at Aldi for 20 years and never had this issue.   Live alone so have fruit/veg in the fridge for well over a week at times and find fruit/veg from Aldi to last as long as other supermarkets.

Is your fridge set at the right temperature to stop spoilage?

Not had an issue, occasionally something will accidentally be stored wrong and can be effected but that is not their fault.

The only time I've had a problem is when I've left something for much much too long - and that could be from Aldi or Tesco or M&S.  Aldi is good value for the veg as I buy the larger bags of things.  I use what I need now and then prep and freeze a selection to have as roasted veg at a later date.  Works well with courgette, onions, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes.  Out of the fridge and in the oven for 30+ minutes and it's an easy 5 a day.

  • I've shopped at my local Aldi all the time for the last year and a half. Never had a problem until recently when I bought a red pepper which looked ok on the outside but when I got it home and sliced it open it had loads of rot inside. I've bought the cheapo potatoes ('wonky' potatoes) there a couple of times recently ,although the pototoes are not spoiled or gone off in any way I have found that they are useless ,they're kind of tasteless and gluey
  • I have no complaints about Aldi's food thus far.

So much to read, so little time.

I totally agree with you.... Doesn't matter what fruit or veg it is within 1-3 day's itt's starting to spoil or has spoiled totally.
I've tried numerous times over the years and still get the results.

I think some of the problem is the food is close to end of life that's why it's cheaper for them to buy and pass on the savings to customers. Also some of the issue is if you're like me and get fruit and veg from Sainsbury's we've been spoilt, as it lasts way longer and way past it BB date depending what it is.
Yes it's more expensive at Sainsbury's compared to Aldi or even other supermarket's, but for the extra 10-30p per fruit/veg it's worth it for me as I don't like wasting food, plans change and I may not eat that lettuce for dinner tomorrow so will eat it the day later, which affects what other fruit and veg.

I have most leading chains on my door step, this is how I rate them for quality of fruit and veg, this is not on price and 1 being the best.

There is not Tesco, Waitrose, and a few others near me so I can't compare them.

I had an incident about 2 weeks back, bought 5% beef mince looked fine, next day took out fridge tossed in pan took fork to break it up and brown grey inside.  Ran all the way through.
As for fruit, I find soft fruit ie raspberries or strawberries do not keep as well from Aldi

It's really disappointing to have to throw food away.  Had the same with a box of chopped mangos that were completely spoiled - a real waste and not cheap (even though from Aldi)
