Would anybody be able to possibly explain how EDF can be telling me that I can save a small amount of money by switching to pay as you go, at the moment I have a direct debit that pays the outstanding Bill due. Last I knew pay as you go was for people that are fiscally iresponcible sorts such as substance adicts

Because pay as you go is slightly cheaper than direct debit on the new EPG cap for many customers.
The rates are here if you want to check for yourself:

I've always thought DD had the cheapest rates, I got the email tonight with new rates saying the same "Over the next year, you could save £11.80 if you choose to pay by Pay As You Go (PAYG).", the email doesn't much to me anyway since my switch to new supplier was completed two days ago.0

PAYG or prepayment is cheaper (but not by a lot) in many areas now, and EdF is following the guidance to tell its customers when a cheaper tariff is available.
The E7 night rates for PAYG from EdF are particularly good.0 -
High 5 everyone, Many thanks for all of the replies. It seams that things are changeing with regard prefered payment methods. As someone rightly says the savings for payg are very small. Sorry if I offend, I sometime stereotype and exagerate what I see in a small number of situations my self. Yes I too was sirprised when EDF told me that PAYG is cheaper than Direct Debit, 'Wind up' did come to mind
