Can we remove this to fit pax in?

We've taken out a door in our bedroom to widen the opening to fit a pax wardrobe in only problem is this beam on the right is in the way. Can we remove it? Next to it is the outside wall and attic above!

There is (possibly) a timber going across the span - Is there any ceiling joists resting on top, and is either side supported by a brick wall ?If it is just "air" above, you should be OK to remove the vertical timbers each side.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
You really need to check what is above the beam, try to post a pic. Plus is there just a loft over it, is the loft boarded with lots of stuff up there?

Thanks both unfortunately other half has no patience and left the beam as was and rebuilt the pax inside for now.
I don't think it supports anything. The right to it is the outside wall which is stone and no brick on the left apart from lath and plaster. I've never known such a mess!
Having a large drink and will deal with it another day!1
