Incorrect Reg Number on App Leading to PCN

Please could I ask for some help on how best to tackle this?
My husband parked our car in a car park in Cirencester this morning, and paid using the PayByPhone app. He returned to the car at 10.46am when it had expired and discovered a ticket on the windscreen from Cotswold District Council or being 'Parked without payment of the parking charge' at 10.40am. He was confused, as he'd paid for parking. When I checked his email receipt from the PayByPhone app, I realised that he had input the reg number incorrectly - the final letter is a V, but he had put it in as a Y (he's dyslexic). This must have been the case since we bought the car (April 2021), and is clearly a genuine mistake on his part, and there was no intention not to pay for parking.
Please could anyone suggest the best course of action on this? Thank you...

Since we concentrate on parking charge notices from unregulated private parking companies, you would be better off taking this over to our friends on Pepipoo.com as they are the experts on council and police issues. You will need to sign up on Pepipoo with a non-Hotmail email address before reading the FAQs, then posting both sides of your PCN with your query.PrivateCouncilPolice3

That's great, thank you. I've posted it on PePiPoo too, so will close this thread. Thanks again!Le_Kirk said:Since we concentrate on parking charge notices from unregulated private parking companies, you would be better off taking this over to our friends on Pepipoo.com as they are the experts on council and police issues. You will need to sign up on Pepipoo with a non-Hotmail email address before reading the FAQs, then posting both sides of your PCN with your query.PrivateCouncilPolice
(Edit - I can't close the thread, so guessing a mod will close when they see it.)1 -

Except do update us here when the Council cancel it on appeal.
A single digit typo in a VRM should lead to cancellation when you evidence it on appeal.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
