  • We have a similar, really worrying issue. For context we have a tiny 3 bid mid-terraced property. Our electricity usage is approximately £100 a month, but our gas has jumped to £350 per month….over the summer! We foolishly didn’t check our bills, and thought we were accruing a credit for the winter months, turns out we are a £1200 in debit and they have estimated our bill to be over £6000 next year.

@jerrypolecat  I have asked MSE to create a new thread so the responses don't get confused.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Don’t tell us in ££, tell us in kWh or meter readings.

££ mean nothing when the unit prices change.
  • I have never really understood the ‘blind spot’ that many consumers have regarding energy bills. Why are people happy to pay £00s a month to a supplier and then not bother to check their statements? I am sure that it would make an interesting topic of research for a future PhD student.

PS: I don’t buy into the ‘we are all too busy’ defence.

    Agree with Sparky.

Those meter readings -  actual ones from 12 months ago (look for the letters A or C or our read after the readings on your bill -  ignore E )   please and todays readings.

I was just about to say "this could be a faulty meter"!
Glad to know you've found the problem so quickly. Good luck with EDF.
