I couldn't find anything about this either and would be interested in a link.The_Green_Hornet said:
I'm not aware of any UK Government plans to end Daylight Savings Time. Do you have a link?Miser1964 said:Good to see that staying on BST is now being considered by the Govt. The annual autumn nonsense of plunging ourselves into darkness by moving the clocks back, necessitating switching on lights around the home and turning on the heating sooner, can and must be stopped.
At times like this, any opportunity to save costs on electricity and gas for the majority must be taken.
I do know that the EU parliament voted in favour in 2019 to scrap DST but member states can't agree so it hasn't happened.
It might be worth mentioning that Russia decided to stop changing its clocks a few years ago, and basically adopted the summertime all year round model, and there was such a public backlash about the dark winter mornings which were the consequence that Vladimir Putin had to back down!
They made a further change which means that they are now on winter time all year round, and sunrise in Moscow in summer is about 3.45 a.m. This is just as daft as a winter sunrise at 10 a.m., but it is the most recent evidence that making winter mornings very dark just so it can stay light until 6 in the evening rather than 5 do not go down well with the general population.0 -

What you forget is that not everyone lives in London! The east to west journey of the sun means that the sun arrives later, the further west you go. This has as much an effect on sunrise as the north/south affect caused by the tilt on the earth's axis. The general shape of the UK means that London (and the Greenwich meridien) is almost as far east as it is possible to get, so most of the UK is already west of the correct time zone.facade said:QrizB said:Personally I don't have a problem with the idea. It's not as though you're actually changing the amount of daylight in a day.I have read that the UK tried this in the late 60s as British Standard Time and it was considered a success but permanent adoption was rejected by Parliament....we would be on the same time as Paris, which is only 2 degrees East of London, making their sunrise about 13 minutes earlier, and they seem to manage fine.
You may be surprised to learn, that although I live on the east coast, I am more than 4 degrees west of Greenwhich and 6.5 degrees west of Paris. ...and there is a full 3 degrees more of UK to the west of me!1 -
Just wake up an hour earlier0
