Park home energy payment?

I waited and watched Martin Lewis this evening hoping we could get told exactly how we get the £400 benefit he has been talking about. We have a unscrupulous landlord that none of us trust very much. Some people say it will be paid to him and he SHOULD pass this on to us. We have over 100 homes here almost everyone is retired as it’s a retirement park. I have looked everywhere I can to see exactly how this payment will come to the bill payers. We think he is on a business tariff but we aren’t sure and the landlord says he can’t tell us for data protection reasons. Also the management company is based in the Isle of Man for business reasons he says.

Any advice at this very busy time would be appreciated

Regards

Bill

There was an update for this back in July but I haven’t seen anything since, so there is something planned. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/400-energy-bills-discount-to-support-households-this-winter
As part of this package, we are confirming today that further funding will be available to provide equivalent support of £400 for energy bills for the 1% of households who will not be reached through the EBSS. This includes those who do not have a domestic electricity meter or a direct relationship with an energy supplier, such as park home residents. An announcement with details on how and when these households across Great Britain can access this support will be made this Autumn.

If the park has 100 homes then it must be metered on a business tariff. So the £400 does not apply. He cannot charge you more than he is paying, so you can ask for evidence of his own charges.

  • The landlord will not give evidence, he uses data protection as an excuse. I also think you’re incorrect that it doesn’t apply as that was what was agreed by the government. I’m just trying to confirm the way it will be paid. If the landlord is on a business tariff he will not get our discounts. So unless there is another way round getting this I’m not sure what will happen. It was said everyone will get this money the question is how? Particularly in these circumstances

If the landlord is on a business contract that is variable, flexible or deemed, or a fixed contract that was signed after 1 April, then there will be a discount similar to the one for domestic customers (not the £400 but the unit rate cap) - which as he cannot make profit from electricity he should pass on to you.

The replacement for the £400 is a totally different concern that they haven't finished working out the details for.

Then you need to remind him of the law on recharging energy bills as a landlord, it's perfectly well defined in statute,
What was 'agreed by the govt' was that everyone with a domestic electricity account would get a £400 rebate. You don't have such an account, so you will get no rebate. Your prices will be determined by the business tariff he is on, subject to the new arrangements imposed by the recently announced subsidy for business tariffs.
It's got nothing to do with data protection, they are just spinning you a yarn.

It was never said that everyone would get "£400", there was reference to comparable levels of support though and it seems that this is what it is turning out to be (from the link a few posts up)...

There may also be other funds available to help those in the most need, but I don't think you are going to see £400 appearing, that is specifically for those with domestic electricity accounts.
