Be Bratz, small warning..

Options
DD has been after this doll for a while and had saved some pocket money to buy it. For those not in the know with Bratz, Be Bratz dolls give access to a secure website where you can virtually design Bratz dolls, rooms, fashions etc and have access to digital pets.

I studied the box before I bought it, and I spent some time reading the parents note on the site, nothing untoward there.

However, what you dont find out until you are signed up is that the site requires points to play. You are given so many points with the doll, but once they are gone you have to buy further points. Apparently you can sell back the clothes etc you have virtually purchased, but you only get half your points back.

Im especially annoyed that it wasnt mentioned on the box that further purchases would be required, neither was it mentioned in the parental notes on the site. Its all buried away in the FAQ which you dont tend to read until after you have purchased. £25 is a lot for a doll, but if we are going to have to keep adding points its going to get extortionate!

So, if you have bought this doll for a little girl for xmas be warned!

someone brought chops a 'baby bratz' for her birthday. im not sure if this is a suitable present for her given that bratz is imho for older children.

ive put the present away for when shes a bit older.

I dont mind Bratz actually, I know there is all this hoo ha about kids playing with obscene dolls etc, but DD hasnt yet progressed to wandering around in boob tubes and thongs. I think most kids have the sense to realise its a doll, and most parents have the sense not to dress their children to imitate a small plastic toy. For those who dont then thats the fault of the parent rather than the manufacturer.

I agree though, they are for older kids. DD was given her first when she was about 6 and she had no interest in it whatsoever, it was only when she reached 9 she really started to play with them.

Still a flippin rip off though!

i dont like brats merchandise, i think it is innapropriate for the age it is marketed at. i have a young relative who loves the things i refuse to but the things for her, she knows auntie 'sillyvixen' wont buy her brats stuff but always enjoys the more traditional/educational presents i buy.

This is soooooo annoying. This happened to us some years back with a pop idol karaoke game which involved buying extra songs of the net (this wasn't apparent from the box)- complete waste of money....and really annoying.

I once bought a health testing kit-when i opened it I found I actualy had to spend a load more money to get any decent health checks.I emailed the retailer-they apologised and said in future this would be highlighted before sale-they gave me a refund.
