Abusive family member found my address.

Options
Hello,

I was very upset today to receive a letter from an abusive family member who I cut contact with years ago.  It's too late to do anything now, but my first question is, how did they find my address?  I have had other family members visit me, but that was more than a year ago, plus I picked them up and took them back to a train station ten miles away, I don't think they knew the actual address. I do have a mortgage on the place I live, but looking at the land registry, you can only search by address / post code / area, rather than by the actual owner?  I've since moved to another part of the country since cutting contact, so it's not a case of looking up the area where I lived when I did have contact with the family member.

Because you picked them up doesn't mean they didn't read a road sign and a door number on your street.

192.com if you have a landline.

But, only they will know how they got it.
  • Thanks for your response, but no to both; I'm opted out of the public electoral register, and I don't have a Facebook.

Try and Google your own name and see what comes up.

do they have any access to experian or other such sources?  businesses use these to not just check credit but also new or old addresses.  So a bank will have access, also likely insurance companies, maybe anyone offering car finance.  So if the family member works for any place like that or knows someone who does it may be they got it from there.

Send it back not known at this address!
Great idea, but if a personal letter unlikely to ever get back to them as most people don't put return addresses on envelopes.
  • Pushpin on Google maps when you had visitors. Or using Google streetview and identifying your property from memory.
Once they have a suspected address they can cross reference with 192.com, Land Registry etc

Your visitor's location on their phone.

If thats the case, they will never know if you got the letter, and so will never be able to confirm that its the correct address.
