I was the owner on the 22nd as well.Robin9 said:You moved in on April 22nd but when did you become the owner?
In days gone if you were moving out those suppliers would often drive the transfer process - but generally now suppliers don't want new customers as they loose money on them - they are forced to under the deemed supply process
In any case I phoned SSE and they said they will split the bill. I will pay for the 2days I was there and the remaining 75 days will be charged to the previous owner.
So quite happy with that outcome1 -
Perfect, they'll estimate what the readings would have been on the day you moved in and recalculate.
Good result.2 -
I always read on here the process was to sign up with the "Current supplier" first. However I recently moved home and used Octopus' move home option, and it literally stated they handle it all, no need to deal with the existing supplier.pochase said:Did you contact SSE when you moved into the property and give them the opening reading and told them that you are now the customer?
Ort did you just try to move to Octopus without becoming a SSE customer first?
I even confirmed that with the Octopus reps on the phone and was told as long I was using the move home option and had entered the future move-in date correctly, they would handle everything with the current supplier of the property.
Indeed as soon as I moved in, Octopus were supplying, and the only ones billing me.
If I received anything for the previous owner / landlord, I simply market not at this address.
Octopus was my "current" supplier at the time though, unsure if that makes a difference.0 -
When I provide readings it's backup by something, like a photo, an email, a twitter DM, submission on the provider's website. Octopus has easy access to all meter readings on their dashboard, why not check when you submitted the initial readings?0

Yes, you can let them do what you should be doing, but then if they don't have all the correct information (as has clearly happened in this case) there can be unusual situations like this. If the new place happens to have the same supplier as the old place, even less likely (but not unheard of) for something unusual to happen.BobT36 said:

Yeah, that was my understanding. Ideally, I would not have lost or whatever my initial meter reading but let's be honest a lot is going on during the moving day it's not hard to forget.BobT36 said:

In previous places I have lived I sent a final meter reading to (when I closed my account) so I'm pretty sure the old owner just didn't do that. He actually skipped the country as well, he owed me money but it wasn't enough to be worth chasing after him in a different country. So it doesn't surprise me he just left it.0
