Heads-up - The co-operative bank switch date

If you completed The co-operative bank current account application online and chose to switch from another current account, and was given a switch date far ahead into the future, then you MAY have a problem.

At least that's what I found out. 

I completed the online application on 10 September 2022. Entered my Metro bank account details. However, I didn't have a debit card at that point, so chose 'no' for the 'Have you got a debit card with this account' question.

The earliest switch date I was given was 4 October 2022. I agreed because I had heard on another forum that co-operative bank have been allocating switch dates well ahead into the future. 

While waiting, I received my Metro bank debit card. So, when I called The co-operative bank support today to add this debit card to the switch, I told her the switch date I had been given. She called the switch team and was told that that date was way too ahead in the future for a switch and that they had no record of my switch. I then told her that I have screenshots with the switch date of 04 October. She then said obviously something had gone wrong. 

She took down the metro bank account details including debit card details and gave me a switch start date of tomorrow and end date of 03 October.

Calling support turned out to be a blessing in disguise because if I hadn't, I would've waited until 04 October and only then realised switch wasn't going through. 

So, if you've been given a switch date well in to the future like me, it may be worth double checking by calling. Call early though, I called around 11-11:30am and it took about 18 minutes just to connect to a Customer Services (CS) agent. 

couple of days ago when I called their system was so slow that we were waiting about 5 minutes for the security questions to come up on CS agent's screen.
