previous landfill issues near our house..help...

we bought our house 5 years ago. did the normal research you do when you take on a solicitor to do conveyancing. nothing came up about the issues with regard to landfill. it was all go ahead.
we have now spoken to another estate agent who says he is having problems selling houses in our close because of issues to do with a golf course which is built on this landfill - our close is near this golf course. t
our previous buyers just pulled out which seems to suggest it is to do with this landfill. Tis means our house is also included in this. what would you do? would you go back to your solicitor and ask why this was not sorted . what would be the way forward? i think these are new tests that are done now but did not exist a few years back. I dont understand how you pay for conveyancing and then the next thing there are new searches done and this is what happens. i imagine the next step is to go back to my conveyancer. any advice greatly appreciated. thanks

p.s the golf course is 300 metres away

Call your local council and ask to speak to their contaminated land officer.

I'd ask them whether anything is thought to be wrong with that site. The guy I spoke to at our council talked to me for about 20 minutes without much prompting and we have no known contaminated sites in our District!
