Built under oven that's wider than 600mm (but not as much as 900mm!)

Planning for kitchen revamp. Currently have 900mm wide free-standing cooker, which has a large single oven - too large for anything other than Chrimbo.
Going hob and built-under oven instead, but concerned that the 600mm standard width might be too small?
I have seen a few 900mm-wide built-in ovens, but they are CRAZY money, but also far too big again.
So, is there a middle-ground?

Thanks.

Not all 600mm ovens are equal!

They can have quite different internal capacities, you need to get to a place where you can compare a few (a big John Lewis maybe or a Currys?)

Also, if you are having a revamp, might it be possible to look at a built-in oven that's higher up? I mean like those fitted kitchens that have built-in oven and microwave stacked in a tall unit. Usually the oven is around waist height and the micro chest height. It doesn't give you more capacity but the ease of use is greatly increased which kind of makes it feel bigger if you get me.

You can also get 600mm double ovens if you are really worried about capacity:

    https://www.johnlewis.com/browse/electricals/cooking/built-in-ovens/double/_/N-adlZ1z0aiyo

Telescopic rails help as well with the ease of use feeling (the Bosch ones are excellent). Particularly true if you are stuck with built-under.

For what it's worth, we are a family of five and use the oven daily, including home-baked bread, etc, and have no issues at all with capacity and have a Bosch 600mm. This one:

    https://www.johnlewis.com/bosch-serie-4-hbs573bb0b-built-in-electric-self-cleaning-single-oven-black/p5561876

(I had to add the telescopic runners)

    Many thanks, IMBO.

Yes, some 600mm singles appear surprisingly small, but that Bosch looks good. Can't go higher up, unfortunately, but a double 'under' is a possibility, tho' don't want to compromise the main oven size.

Time to measure! Having looked at microwaves not too long ago, I take their 'litres' with quite a pinch. Many (all?) Including inaccessible space like ABOVE the grill, and UNDER the turntable!

    Thank you.

Don't be afraid to take your one of your largest dinner plates with you if you go built-in microwave shopping!

If you end up going for a Bosch that does not include the telescopic runners, you can purchase them separately here:

genuine bosch part and much cheaper than buying direct from Bosch

whatever oven you go for, the pyrolitic cleaning feature is highly recommended!

Any reason for going with built in rather than free standing? What width hob are you putting in? We switched our freestanding to built in but thats because the ovens were to go into larder units and so be at standing height and a drawer unit went under the hob.

If you stick with freestanding you can get 90cm cookers with a 60:30 split ovens (other ratios are available)

In what way "too small"? Are you concerned about the actual physical dimensions of the oven or the actual capacity? If the latter then you should concentrate more on the internal capacity, usually express in litres, rather than oven dimensions. Anything over 60 litres is more than enough for most people, and if you need more on the odd, special occasion then an air fryer might prove a good additional investment.

750mm, 5-ring hob - I like my pan space :-) I also prefer the look of hobs in worktops - looking for a 'change'!
Our existing 900mm wide free-standing and is just excessive, especially with just a single oven. But, man, it's great at Chrimbo.
Yes, I've seen the split-oven types at the same 900mm size, and often wished I'd gone for that from the start. But, hey...
We do also have a combi microwave (fan oven) and actually use that most of the time, 'specially as kids have gorn to Uni. And looking to buy a larger air-fryer - a 30L jobbie. So, really, I'm daft looking at bigger than a 600mm wide built-under. But will likely go 'double'.
    Cheers.

Yes, oven capacity. Having been duped by the 'litre capacities' of some microwave ovens, I'll be taking IMBO's advice and will brandish a tape measure...
    Ta.

Have you considered a chest level oven?

We lived in a house for 26 years with eye/chest level ovens. When we moved to a new house 11 years ago it had an under hob oven. We found it far more awkward to have to bend down low to use it.

When we refitted the kitchen a few years later we reverted to eye/chest level ovens.

They are so much easier to use, especially as you age.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Limited layout, unfortunately, so it'll have to be below worktop level.
On a plus note, it'll hardly ever be used :-)
