Hi
We’ve been on a 12 month fixed electricity tariff, which runs out on 9th October 22. It has no early exit fees.

Would it be cheaper to leave now and lock in the current rate for 12 months? Or will the new govt capped rate be cheaper?
And what are peoples views on a variable tariff? Is it likely to go down in the next year?
thanks

You won't be able to get any fixed tariff now that's cheaper than the new variable rate.
The government has said that the new variable cap lasts for 2 years. Previous predictions had the cost way above (more than double) the new cap for the whole of 2023. That would suggest it's highly unlikely the cap will come down at all.1
