Smart meter home display

Hi all any help appreciated.
In a storm earlier this year a nearby electric cable was hit which I guess caused a surge and apart from a laptop charger it has killed my smart meter home display.
Eon won’t replace it as they say it’s out of warranty
two things….if I sign up to another supplier would they provide one or if I buy one will any model be adequate and do the job?
thank you
Bob

I couldn't find my BG display for ages, so grabbed any old meter display when one came up on a FB free-stuff group, and it wouldn't connect to my meter. So it doesn't seem to be the case that *any* one will do. I also expect there's a need to "pair" the display with the meter, to prevent conflicting readings if you have close neighbours.

I have downloaded the Hugo smartmeter app to my phone.
It's free and does a much better job than my home display.
    Give it a try

Does it connect to your meters directly though, without the smart display?

Yup, the IHD needs to be paired with the meter. Only your energy supplier and a couple of third party outfits have the power to do it. They are very unlikely to go pairing any old IHD from ebay for you.
You can purchase "aftermarket" IHDs such as the Hildebrand Glow, and have it paired to your meter (Hildebrand is one of the very few that can do this). Just make sure you know whether you have a SMETS1 or SMETS2 meter before ordering.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Yes. In fact they recommend it for anyone who has lost their IHD

But does it give you the actual meter readings?
  • Thanks to all. The Hugo app seems ok will see how accurate it is as time passes
