Moving in to a new flat with my partner after looking for ages…

I’ve seen in the news the big 5 energy companies are refusing new customers , will this be the case at the end of October and will I be eligible for the govt help with energy bills?

Your supplier will be whoever currently supplies the property.

Take photos of the meters asap and contact the supplier to take over the account. 

Octopus or EDF may take you on as a new customer should you wish to change.

Yes, you will be eligible for help with energy bills, even if it isn't the full £400.

Households will see a discount of £66 applied to their energy bills in October and November, rising to £67 each month from December through to March 2023. The non-repayable discount will be provided on a monthly basis regardless of whether consumers pay monthly, quarterly or have an associated payment card.

This means that where a person’s housing circumstances change during the 6-month period, such as those leaving or moving home, they will still benefit from the relevant portion of the total £400.
