Speeding

Just back from a break in Yorkshire and have received notice from local police to say they intend to take proceedings under RTOA 1988 for the offence of ‘Speeding - exceed 30mph on restricted road - manned equipment . . . . . .the speed was recorded at 36mph (not recorded for red light offences) For variable speed limit offences only the speed limit at the time was [nothing stated] mph’
No previous motoring offences in 45 years so have never had the pleasure of receiving such a notice. A couple of questions;
1. Restricted road - manned equipment Would this have been a copper or camera? The online evidence shows it’s me, approaching the camera, which suggests it was a copper and yet I have no recollection of spotting anyone and I’m usually very wary of such ‘traps’.
2. Whats the reference to red light offences about?
3. Should there be a speed stated in the final line?

For now I’ve sent the form back, confirming it was me driving and await their PCN. Is there any opportunity to plead mitigating circumstances?
Believe it’ll likely be £100 and 3 pts, or training course instead of the points?

What are your mitigating circumstances?

Just opt for the training course.
It's a good experience, slightly cheaper and no points.
Please don't ask me how I know that.

Wrong forum. This one is for private parking tickets.
1. Don’t know and it probably doesn’t matter which technology caught you exceeding the speed limit.
2. Probably refers to going through a traffic light on red. Some cameras are situated at traffic lights.
3. Doesn’t look as though you have gone through a variable speed camera such as on a smart motorway where the speed limit can vary from normal.
Well done on 45 years with no motoring offences. With a clean licence the chances are for speeds between 35 and 42 mph you will be offered the opportunity to go on speed awareness course. It will be cheaper than the fine, no points on your licence and no need to inform your insurance company.2 -
Since we concentrate on parking charge notices from unregulated private parking companies, you would be better off taking this over to our friends on Pepipoo.com as they are the experts on council and police issues.You will need to sign up on Pepipoo with a non-Hotmail email address before reading the FAQs, then posting both sides of your PCN with your query.PrivateCouncilPolice1
