Motorbike no claims bonus used in conjunction with car insurance

Hiya all, just wondering if anyone knows of any insurance companys/websites that take into account a 2 years no claims on my motorbike that i can use with my car insurance, i'm due very shortly to go for my car test so would like the 2 years no claims to benefit me on my cars insurance if that makes any sense!! I have already had a quote from Direct Line. Thanks in advance. Andy

AFAIK, most insurers do not consider M/C NCB valid for car or the other way. What did Direct Line say? You could try to get a joint policy where your NCB would be valid, but your lack of experience (and age?) would have a major effect on any premium.

  • Hi. I'm looking for exactly the same thing, so I thought I would log in and tell you what I have found.

I think it is fairly logical. Going from a motorbike to a car you probably have superior road-craft (speeding biker stereotypes aside) to the standard car user. The reverse is not true... it would probably be a bad thing if someone who has build up loads of NCB from some car jumped on to a sportsbike with cheapo insurance.

Anyway, so far I can only find Direct Line, Churchhill and Tesco that will accept motorbike NCB. That knowledge is only from Googling around and looking at T&Cs. I think you would need to get on the phone to a lot of them to find out and even then I wouldn't expect all the sales people to actually know. I think some others will offer a discount for having motorbike NCB, but that is not much use imo.

It is a pain that you can't use Confused et al as you can't confidently put your NCB into the online calculator thingy

Phone around and let me know what you find. I have 5 years NCB I want to transfer!

I have both a motorbike and car licence and in all the years I've been riding and driving, I've not been able to combine the NCB. Always treated separately.

Yes, I should have mentioned that everything I said above is on the condition that you surrender your motorbike insurance. You can't have the NCB on both policies at the same time.

Funny, when the phoned me up the other day they said I couldn't. I guess the salesman didn't know what he was talking about...

From experience, NCB on a motorcycle cannot be used on a car.

If so, id have a combined bonus of over 10years now.. :)

Well clearly, as we've said above - it can sometimes.

What I would like to know is, if you have X years mtorobike NCB then use Ecar or Tesco or Churchill for car insurance using motorbike NCB, after 1 year of insurance do you have X+1 car NCB, meaning you can then go and get quotes from all companies?

I would happily pay a bigger premium for one year of it would allow me to "convert" my bike NCB to car NCB.

When I got rid of my scooter, my insurer refused to touch me on my motorbike, so I naughtily allowed the policy to expire, giving me 1 years NCB.

I insured my new sports bike with no NCB.

I then joined Ecar with 1 years Motorbike NCB (the scooter policy), and stayed with them for 8 months on a pay as you go policy, which gave me 2 years NCB, and canceled the policy, this gave me 2 years NCB which I can use against a car, or rejoin Ebike and use it against a 2nd motorbike.

I've rejoined eCar and will gain 3 years NCB in August :D
