Home Insurance

My partner moved into a two bedroom cottage about 25 years ago. He’s not very savvy when it comes to finances and didn’t realise that he should never renew insurance! When I met him he was paying £140 a month for home insurance with Santander after being with them since the mortgage started. I feel he’s been exploited because of his naivety and wondered whether it would be worth trying to reclaim some money. Thanks I’m advance

He’s not very savvy when it comes to finances and didn’t realise that he should never renew insurance! Why do you think you should never renew insurance?feel he’s been exploited because of his naivety and wondered whether it would be worth trying to reclaim some money.Every year they send an invitation to renew and explain what needs to be done if you wish to cancel. If someone chooses to renew, then that is their choice. There is no wrongdoing
That is unless your partner is mentally incapable of understanding a renewal notice.

What I meant is that he auto renewed year on year without understanding that it’s best to look around for better deals. But yes it’s his fault. Thank you for your advice.1

I have seen people that never open their envelopes, or if they do, they briefly look at who they are from and then ignore the content if they don't think it's important. The insurer cannot change that type of person. Only that person can change; hopefully, those around them can help them change. That is probably one of your jobs now as a couple.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
