If all the hot air expended on this thread could be captured and recycled, it could probably boil an awful lot of kettles...No free lunch, and no free laptop

To add some hot air, I like my Russell Hobbs 21271.You can boil 1 mug of water (235ml) in 45 seconds and there are handy little red tabs showing the amount of water required for 1/2/3 mugs, no more guessing on how much water to fill up. I'll let you guru's work out how much in pennies that costs. I think I got it for £17 to replace a dead kettle. It's a nice light weight kettle even when full and being plastic doesn't burn you like metal ones if you happen to touch it. Pours nice too.1

Not a fan of plastic kettles due to what might leech into the water over time.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.1

However one thing I didn't take into consideration was convenience and cleanup,
These days a mug of water in the Microwave is preferable (as a tea snob) I can literally use timing to get the perfect temp too.

In relation to my comment above about electric for heating if a kettle is cheaper than a stove.
