Tesco credit card and household bills

I've now got a tesco credit card. I wish to pay all my household bills on this, but can't find either the account number or sort code. Am I missing something stupid. Or do I pay the bills another way?

  • Are you saying that you’d like to set up direct debits on your Tesco credit card?
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
    Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £51,300)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
    0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
    Mortgage Outstanding - £138,087.38 (Payment 11/360)
    Total Debt = £1,125.00 (0%APR) @ £112.50pm

Because if so you can't.  Credit cards do not have a sort code / account number.
Some companies, but to be honest very few, allow regular bill payment by card and they will ask for the long card number, expiry date and often the CVV.

  • Are you saying that you’d like to set up direct debits on your Tesco credit card?
Yes, or just regular payments to cover the bills. So I can benifit from the 1point per every £8

I do not know of any Credit Card provider that allows direct debits. If the bill you are wanting to pay allows an online payment or over the phone payment to be made, you could attempt to do it that way by providing the credit card number, expiry and CSC, but you are almost certainly not going to be able to set up a direct debit.

You need to setup direct debits from your bank account, you won't be able to pay your bills by card in that way, indeed, they might even treat it as cash and then charge you a fee/interest. Some will even specify you can't pay bills on cards. Some firms do allow CPAs or similar as a monthly sub - NOW TV do for example but you can't setup DDs from your card
