Stains not coming out of washing, detergent or machine at fault?

Despite pre treating stains and washing on 30’ using Almat bio gel with stain light my stains are not coming out.

I’m using a BEKO washing machine on a mixed fabric setting, not over loading. My washing machine is about 7 years old and has recently been adding ‘time’ on to programs?
I have cleaned my filter, the seal is clean and I do a regular hot wash ‘self cleaning program’ to get rid of any build up.

What am I doing wrong?

  • Firstly I would ask what the stains are simply because I find certain stains (think grease!) are better spot treated before they go in to the machine.
In the past I have used specific  StainDevils (think they have a new name) on things like ink etc.

  • On todays load it seems to be more ‘grease’ stains from dropping food down your front, chips pizza etc.

I did pre treat with Ace spray- supposed to be one of the best, and I did wait the 5 mins, over, before putting the wash on.
  • I have an old aerosol can of 'StainSlayer' that I use on grease splodges down the front  . (No longer made except maybe by Beckmann with a newer name- just googled: think it's no longer made.)

I have also had De-sol-vit aerosol which I think worked well. That can all used up!! I try so hard not to splash the grease....

In the past   I have tried Swarfega- meant for cleaning hands. can't remember how successful that was!

TBH I use washing up liquid or soap on that kind of stain before putting in the washing machine.  Sometimes a really stubborn stain needs a 40 degree wash rather than 30.

For grease/oil marks I rub in corn flour to soak up the oil. Then wash.

And I agree some do need a 40 wash.

I'd second bouicca21's suggestion of WUL or soap on grease stains before washing.  Sometimes - but rarely - needs a second treatment.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • I use talcum powder on the grease stain and then a 40 degrees wash. I guess a very similar way as newlywed uses.

  • For grease from food I pre treat with plain old Fairy WUL

Add a drop to stain and massage in
  • Machines often increase the wash time for larger loads. They weigh the laundry, so even if it appears the same size, if it weighs more, the time will increase. If you're adding more clothing than previously, that can impact on results. That said, grease is notorious for needed good pre treatment and I second (third? eight?) the WUL liquid suggestion above.

I use napisan which is the same stuff as more expensive stain remover. I also add in soda crystals.
