Fine for driving a SORN'd vehicle

Annoyed with myself more than anything.

Long story short, I have a future classic car, MOT'd and in A1 condition. I have the V5 for another that is semi dismantled for spare/repair, and recently bought a 3rd car for spares or repair (same age, colour, model)

Anyway, on buying the 3rd car - an MOT failure - I asked my wife to SORN that car. Anyway, off on holiday we went (in the good vehicle).

I've came home to a £530 fine for driving a SORN'd vehicle, and an £80 fine for not taxing a vehicle.

It appears that my vehicle has been SORN'd instead of the MOT failure - I can only assume my wife got the letters or V5's mixed up (my vehicle also needed taxed) and it appears my car was taxed then SORN'd immediately afterwards.

It is one of those ones, if I need to pay the fine - I need to pay the fine. Ultimately I was driving a SORN'd vehicle, and did fail to tax/SORN the other vehicle, albeit unknowingly.

However, has anyone any experience if there is any sympathy to admin errors?
