Cutting up old laminate worktop

Need to quickly cut up old laminate worktop to take to tip. Would a chain saw blade be damaged ?

Comments

  • Laminate worktops are chipboard core it may blunt it, as I seem to go through blades and cutters at an alarming rate but damage is unlikely.
I’m assuming they are not solid laminate.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'

Circular saw would be better if you have one. A lot more controllable.

Probably not, but make sure it is sharp and it will need sharpening again afterwards!
  • Hand saw is easy enough too

A big, heavy sledge hammer is quite satisfying. Messy and noisy though...
A circular saw will be by far the quickest & easiest way of cutting the worktop in to manageable sized chunks.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • If you've not got a power tool already to do the job, I'd just buy a hand saw. You don't need anything too fine as that will slow you down. Something like this would do: https://www.screwfix.com/p/irwin-jack-8tpi-wood-saw-20-500mm/15083

I have done quite a bit of this in my time.
I have a circular saw attachment for my cordless drill so much less powerful than a dedicated saw. However, easy to do a single cut through the laminate top and part way through the core. The rest of the core is then very easy to snap. No need to cut completely through it.
