Credit on EON Next account
Hi - I currently have credit on my account of £780 and I pay £244 a month on a fixed term till March 2023. I'm so confused by everything going on at the minute that I left my account in credit worrying about what is going to happen in the future but after seeing it had gone up to that amount now should I be asking for some of that back?
Also, my usage comes out on average currently at around £120 pm for both gas and electic according to my bill so am I able to reduce my direct debit even though the £244 is the amount they gave me in April? I do realise some credit is good for winter
Thanks so much to anyone who can advise.

I'm in a similar situation in that I am over £600 in credit and was just leaving it because I was worried - I reduced my direct debit last month but you can only do it by about 10% or so each month so can gradually decrease it.1

IF you decide to ask for it back, they are usually very quick to do so (i've done it twice*). I asked for £x, via email, and got a confirmation email back by return. The money then arrived about 7-10 days later.
I think as long as you leave at least one months usage/credit in the account, they will refund the rest.
BUT, i'm not saying that's what YOU should do, but just that's how Eon do it.
However, is it TRUE credit, in that you have also been billed up to date?

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)1 -
Thank you, it is true credit as I've recently paid it, I'm still unsure what to do - if we get the government £400 I may then ask them to refund some
Thanks for the help x1 -

So you won't build up credit of £400, but you'll have £400 extra in the bank!!
To spend as you wish 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)1 -
@Sea_Shell is correct.
How you'll receive the £400 energy bill discount from your supplier (moneysavingexpert.com)
Do ask for the credit back and ask for it all. Why should they have your money when it's better being in your account. Tell them you are paying the correct amount. You may need to be firm.

I'm over £700 in credit with Eon Next v7, but my fixed rate runs out on October 5th, so I plan to sort it out then as I'm supposed to go to the very expensive Eon v19, but will request the standard rate from then on, at a much more reasonable DD.
We had solar panels installed in March, so our electricity usage dropped dramatically, and I'm still not sure exactly how much my annual electricity usage will be.
I was with EDF previously and they used to give me a refund every summer.1 -
If you want to use your credit and instead lower your DD then it’s simple to do - when EonNext sent me a reminder for a monthly reading there’s a specific link to request a reduction in my DD. I told them I wanted to reduce my DD from £250 to £200 and explained my maths, I had an email back within 24 hours agreeing to the reduction and it was updated on my account too.
Just a suggestion in case it could be quicker to lower your DD than request a refund.1 -
I’m about £150 in credit at any given time as my DD is too high so every couple of months I ask for a refund and E.on Next agree. I don’t think they’ll reduce my DD. I thought taking the refund might affect my DD in October but in the end I thought it’s my money and I don’t think they should have it!1

Forgot to say I spoke to someone at E.on who said asking for refunds won’t have impact on DD. I hope it won’t other than it going up due to increased costs. It’s £145 pm now and I live on my own in a flat with electric only.1

Thank you everyone for being so helpful and taking the time, understood now re the £400 from the government and reducing DD so think it's a good idea for me to request at least some of it back 😊 x0
