Which is cheaper

Which would be cheaper to run in a two story two bed home?

I have a 1.5kW Oil Filled Radiator. I also have a 2 year old worster Worcester gas combi boiler.

When my boiler broke a couple of years ago I had found using electric heaters a lot more expensive than my heating.

Is it more expensive to use the central heating or the oil filled radiator for the room im in? We'll I should say the room my dog is in as it's been unwell.

I keep most of the radiators fairly low except the main rooms

Only negative would be that I wouldn't be able to carry it up and down the stairs

  • In almost all cases it would be more expensive to use the oil filled radiator. There are too many variables to be totally accurate as it depends on the level of heating in one room vs the others, the heat losses in the different rooms etc. but barring the other rooms having very poor insulation and the one with the oil filled radiator being incredibly well insulated, gas will be cheaper.

Single rate electricity is about 350% more than mains gas per kWh. The former is more efficient, but that doesn't begin to cancel out the huge price differential.
