DD refund coming would CC really been better

in Credit cards
Debit refund (uk large holiday booking company) is I'm told appoved. Bank was helpful in sterring us in what to do. Although the statement direct debit payment is covered might be correct the process could have been a longer slog. Would we have done any better by using a credit card as reading up sec 75 it's not guaranteed you will obtain a refund and a slog anyways. So should we get a credit card and just pay it off monthly or stick with using debit card?
Thanks

What are you trying to say. I don't understand any of thisMortgage free wannabe
Actual mortgage stating amount £75,150
Overpayment paused to pay off cc
Starting balance £66,565.45
Current balance £58,108
Cc around 8k.4 -
Like Sncjw I'm not really clear on what you are saying, but assuming that you mean that you got a refund for something you paid for with a debit card using the chargeback process and wonder if a CC would have given anything extra ....That refund will have been reliant on the holiday company agreeing that you were entitled to the refund and it;s them that have paid it; they could simply have refused. A S75 credit card claim makes the credit card company equally liable, which gives you extra protection if , for example, the holiday company had gone bust.0

S75 is not a cover all fast fix.
Many S75 claims take months to be sorted.
CC is always handy.
Pay deposit (1p will do) on CC & balance via another method. Will see the whole amount covered. Subject to £100 to £30K limits & meeting S75 criteria.Life in the slow lane0 -
Sorry for confusion it's an age thing. Obtaining notification DD refund will be paid took numerous emails, 8 telephone calls and visits to bank Mentioning bank will intervene if need be (true) helped changed the attitude from previous disinterest.
So my question: would attitudes have been better from the start if I had paid via CC. If not I'm failing to see the benefit of having one
Thanks0 -

If there was a chargeback route on a CC you'd have had the same experience.
If there was not they'd have to consider the situation as themselves being liable, but expect significant pushback under that scenario (they're paying you out of their own money effectively.)
CC's offer you someone else to hold liable, but they don't mean you'll get better service or necessarily be more likely to get a refund.0 -
Credit card offers additional protection in the form of the S75 cover whereby the card issuer is jointly liable for a debt (assuming all criteria is met) so if you did a chargeback (not clear what you did as you're taking about a direct debit here?) it would be the same process but S75 gives you longer cover and a potential alternative if the seller challenges the chargeback and takes the money back.
Plus benefits like cashback, airmiles etc0 -
Thanks for replies. It was a uk 4 day holiday booking mix up refund.
I read up outline of sec 75 which I read as someone else could be held liable but that doesn't mean you will get a refund and as previous replies pointed out it could be hard to obtain.i sense the format would be the same as I've encountered: first denial and then multiple barriers in the hope you give up.
I'm of the age that was brought up on cash and honest parties. However I acknowledge in today's world that's risky. So we've a decision to make CC or not.
Thanks

There is a little give on debit card chargebacks, the bank is still responsible for the security of your account, and they should do a chargeback if a company has taken payment against your wishes.
I once signed up to something but then later got an email saying my service was cancelled "without" a refund, since I was no longer getting what I paid for I informed the bank, they contacted the company who said no tough luck, and the bank then told me they processed the chargeback.
Usually I do pay by CC for things of value though, the above example was only for something worth £10.0 -

Everyone looks back in the days of their youth and deludes themselves life was better. 1979 saw the launch of Minder, a show that spawned the name of Arthur Daly as a type of conman and grifter, I'm sure there were shows like that before too. There was never a time when people were honest0 -

Sorry I digress. What I'd like to say is that I do agree with those who say that if you pay by a debit card you can ask for chargeback.
Having said that, I applied for a Section 75 a few years ago when a car I bought on my CC turned out to be a pile of rubbish. It DID take months to sort out but I did end up getting my money back, plus compensation (and a lovely bouquet of flowers for the inconvenience and time lag). It took 18 months(!)
However, being a slightly older person, I would always recommend keeping a credit card because if, like me, you set it to clear the balance every month, it really is a good way to spread purchases. For example, I paid by CC for my car to be serviced and MOT'd in August - that will be paid in full from my bank account at the end of September. This month I used that same card to pay the lump sum for my car insurance - that won't be taken from my bank account until the end of October. I find it's a great way of spreading what for me are large-ish bills and it's not such a shock when they go from my bank account. I use my banking and credit card apps frequently and find them excellent for keeping up to date with all spending. I could (but won't) tell you to the exact penny what's in my current account now without looking. Using a credit card in that way means that there's no interest to pay even though the money isn't paid immediately.
Having and using a credit card frequently means your credit reports reflect a good history and also that you're a diligent payer, in case you ever need any lending. Even if you don't, I love the way that a credit card can give me the freedom to buy now, pay later - but only when paying off the outstanding balance each month. I'm not going to stray down the path of 'spend, spend, spend' anymore - that way disaster lies and I learned that lesson the hard way.
But generally, I'd say keep it. Even if you only buy groceries on it for a while and clear it every month - and then if you do ever need an emergency amount, you'll have a CC to help.
Just my opinion, for what it's worth. But I do see it as a benefit and am glad to have a CC.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
