Hi, I need to get a new passport for my child, her old one, which I cannot now find, expired years ago when she was a baby. Firstly do I actually need the old one and secondly am I renewing or getting a new passport? I cannot find anything online to guide me. Thanks

Child passports are issued for 5 years. If you obtained it when she was a new-born it would not have expired until she was 5.When you renew a passport you are asked to send in the old passport. As you can’t find the old passport - you are replacing a lost passport.

Processing times are averaging about 10 weeks.1 -
you are applying for a replacement passport and you will have declare the passport lost online. https://www.gov.uk/report-a-lost-or-stolen-passport. You will then get a phone call from the Lost and Stolen `Team (withheld number) to confirm the details. When you apply fro the passport the details will automatically be linked to your application, but you will be give a reference number (starting with L) which you can also note on the application.suestew said:Hi, I need to get a new passport for my child, her old one, which I cannot now find, expired years ago when she was a baby.
