New government price cap for dual tariff energy

There doesn't seen to be any explanation about how the new government energy price cap will apply to consumers in an all-electric house with a dual tariff supply (different day & night rates). I'm with EDF, and although their website says they will contact customers next week, to explain how the new govenment limits will apply to specific users, I would prefer to hear the direct 'from the horses mouth', rather than assume EDF will give me a correct and clear outline. Does anybody know?

It works in exactly the same way as all the previous price caps have operated.  Have you checked your on line account as EDF have published the new tariff rates and reports from others have stated they are offering excellent off peak rates, obviously at the expense of on peak. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6387150/big-changes-for-e7-as-part-of-epg

  • Thanks for the reply, but I'm not seeing clear rates when I log on to my EDF account, maybe that's because I don't live in Wales, like the example in the forum link. What really bugs me, is that the media and the guidance is all focussed on 'average bills', as though we are all dummies and unable to calcluate the effect on on own typical consumption. I just want to know; what are the government price capped rates for dual fuel?

Hi - the nuance here is that the Government (or Ofgem) don't set the rates for (i.e. p per kWh for day and night use) for dual tariff energy. There are rules that the Govt/Ofgem set that allow individual energy suppliers to set their own rates, and each supplier can choose to charge a higher night rate (as long as they balance it out with a lower day rate) or a higher day rate (as long as they balance it out with a lower night rate). So you have to wait for energy suppliers to publish their rate tables to get the information you're looking for (if I've understood your question correctly).

You can find links to EDF's rate cards at the bottom of this page:

Hope this clears things up :)
