Virginia creeper can spread well, if you know someone who has one it is east to get rooted cutting off of it at this time of year.
Sedum would cope on a thin layer of soil also.1 -
Raised edge like Eldi says, but filled with decorative gravel/slate/chippings/bark chips. Then just a few potted plants, watered by the butts you have obviously fitted to the house..., and a nice bench in t'middle. You might not actually sit there, but it'll at least look as tho' it has a purpose :-)Then again, you might even end up sitting there.A pergola or gazebo over it? All the climbers you could want planted in the surround soil.1

Thank you for these additional comments - I hadn't realised there were more, I'm sure I used to get notifications so not sure what happened to those.
Sadly my 2 big water butts didn't cope with this past summer though nice and full now. I've now dispersed the contents of many of the pots into some new raised beds so will follow the ideas for something that will scramble across the concrete now perhaps with just a few pots. Thanks again everyone, really constuctive ideas.0 -
