LPs and Singles

I'm in the process of clearing my brothers flat out - there are about 50 LPs and 50 singles - some ok ( U2 , Bob dylan, Floyd etc ) etc other a bit more random.
Question is: I s it worth selling as a job lot - it would have to be collect as they are too heavy to post, also my brother was not the most hygienic so they smell a bit dusty / Smokey
Is it better to just chuck in bin?

Hi, if you can get rid of them as a job lot then that's what I'd recommend. They have to be clean though, clean enough for a dealer to sell on. I tried to sell my lovely lot of 1960s and 70s LPs a short while ago but nobody, absolutely nobody wanted them!
I googled 'where to sell my old vinyl' and lots of links came up but when I contacted places they just said they weren't interested, and I'd included a nicely typed list of each LP with my email, about 100 in all. I found it quite upsetting really.
I did manage to sell a few through one of the Facebook groups I'm in but you may not want to bother with that, it's not an instant selling method. And I didn't get much but it was better than nothing, I guess.
If I were you I'd try listing them on Freegle or Freecycle. Sometimes people are very interested. Of course you won't get paid but then again, they won't go into landfill. In fact I've sometimes seen Freegle/Freecycle ads of people wanting any old LPs and singles.
I wouldn't bin them until I'd tried the freebie way. Sadly, they are not in much demand right now. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Vinyl has been making a come back the space it takes up in the likes of HMV is increasing and some older LP's are being re-pressed.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...2 -
Condition is also really important and the headline suggests they may not be in A12

Oxfam have shops that specialise in music, including records. May be worth contacting them to take them off your hands and go to a good cause.

Certainly don't chuck in the bin!I recently sold most pf my collection (mainly 70's and 80's LPs) at auction and get a few grand, although I had kept them in good nick. I'm sure I would have made more if I'd sold them myself individually, but we were moving and I just decided to bite the bullet and get rid.You donlt say where you are in the country but see if you can find a record shop in the locality that would come out, look at them and offer you a price for them - some advertise in the music magazine - if you give an indication of where they are we many be able to come up with suggestions.2

Hi DE.I'd suggest it's worth Googling each one - including the disc number or date - to see if any are worth a reasonable sum beyond the music content! For smell, I wonder if placing them, spaced out, in a large cardboard box to which a few squeezes of 'febreeze'-type spray was added might help? I'd also punch holes in the box so it's ventilated, and not become damp inside from the spray. Then look locally for shops, as Pooh suggests.1
