Refunds on football cancelled cause of queens death

Options
Can anyone help? I bought two tickets from seat unique for West Ham Newcastle game 11th September and have been told these tickets will be issued for the rearranged match… I know that my friend, whom I bought the tickets for, will not be able to attend the rearranged fixture as he lives in another country, and also they were a present for his 50th so I won’t be attending.
I’d like some help on as this was agreed by the fa and EFL clubs, that due to the sad circumstances of the queens death games would be postponed, why then do they not offer a refund? Thanks to anyone who can help.

  • I've wondered about that.  I presume performance of the contract was frustrated by the decision to postpone.  I'd have thought you were entitled to refund, but I don't know who "seat unique" are and if they are covered by UK law.
  • They are covered by uk law but do say in their terms and conditions that they will not refund, it should be for whoever postponed it surely to step in… I agree it should have been postponed…

Have you tried contacting them to explain the circumstances and ask nicely if they will refund in this instance as a matter of goodwill ?

If the game doesn't go ahead as scheduled, I'd have thought they were bound to refund in these circumstances.  The contract is frustrated.

    But I may be wrong...

I think it depends on the specifc terms of the contract, but given that the match has not been cancelled, only postponed, I doubt that you are entitled to a refund.

You could try askingfor a refund as a gesture of goodwill, or to ask whether they will issue a credit to let you rebook for a date you can both attend.

If you bought the ticket directly from the club in question, you would as standard be offered the choice of attending the rearranged game or a refund if you can't make the new date (this has always happened for me with my team).

Ticket resale sites are, unfortunately, a law unto themselves. I just looked at the price of hospitality packages for my team on that site compared with buying direct, and they don't half mark up the price! £300 from the club v £800 from Seat Unique.

How much would you lose out if you resold the tickets for the rearranged game on the same platform?

That's in cases where tickets were bought from the club - the OP bought them from a reseller.
