Price Cap vs British gas variable

I seen Martin put the "average" new price guarantee 1st of October on his instagram the other day

Electricity
Unit : 34p per kwh
Standing : 46.36 per day

Gas
Unit : 10.30 per kwh
Standing : 28.49 per day

I'm on the British gas variable currently, I checked the prices and they are pretty much identical, if not slightly higher than that already?

Have they put their prices up early? Or have I missed something?

  • Are you sure that it doesn't say "prices from 1 Oct" on your tariff?

No, it says somewhere in your account, I can't remember where, that those tariff prices are Octobers and that you are paying the lower rate now or something like that, it just they have adjusted them early for the website.  It's not that clear or easy to find but I saw it this morning when I checked my account

Here we are, it was on the 'Bills' page

    Important information

The prime minister has announced a new Energy Price Guarantee that means the average energy bill will be no more than £2500 a year from October 1st for the next two years. We’ll contact you soon confirming how this affects you, and continue to update our website with more detail when available - in the meantime our advisors have no more information to share with you at this time. Tariff details now show the new rates, but rest assured you are still paying the lower rates until 1st October. Read more on the Price cap.
