My gas and electric monthly direct debit was previously £88 per month, now it has gone up to £195 per month which is a 121% rise not a 54% rise as we were told?
The monthly electric bill which was previously roughly around £25-£35 per month all year round, was paying £39 per month dd,is now £98 which is a 151% rise???
I have only recently managed to log in to my British Gas account so I couldn’t up it previously, but I have emailed them to check my account as it can’t be right can it??
I noticed that a 54% rise on £88 is roughly £135,so add on the £66 credit from October which adds up to around £200, roughly the new monthly payment 🤔🤔🤔

If you pay by fixed monthly DD, your monthly payment is not your energy bill.
    Has your tariff changed?
How much energy do you use per year? There will be an estimated annual consumption value on your latest bill

Most months the electric bill will be the same amount each month the increases come in winter when you need lighting for rooms like the kitchen, living room and so on.
Try and find a bill from 12 months ago and take present readings, if you want to work out from October 2022 use 34p for electric and 10.5p for gas that will give the usage minus the SC's which will be around the £300 mark this will give you the total including SC's. As suppliers aren't putting the £400 rebate on prices but possibly just taking less DD or refunding the £66/67 to accounts.
You could, if it's an option in your account make an additional payment for 6 months of what they refund you thus putting the account in credit.
Someone please tell me what money is
  • All entirely possible of you have come off a fixed rate tariff and move to the SV tariff.

Has your tariff changed in the last few months ?

The 54% rise is only for the average customer on the SV tariff, use more, pay more.

Stop thinking in fixed DD ££ amounts and start thinking (usage in Kwh x unit rate)

@stevepb101  Are you in credit or debit?  If the latter there will be an element of catch up
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If youre not on a fixed tariff. you're on a variable one.
Variable tariffs increased significantly in April and are going to increase again in October. It's possible that your 121% increase is based on the new October rates.

As well as this question, did your last statement show your account to be in credit or in debit, and by how much?
If you can answer these two questions we can work out what your payments should be.

The energy you use is one thing and the cap applies to the unit prices.
The monthly amount you pay by direct debit is something completely different and any rise above the cap level indicates you were probably paying an insufficient amount previously

The monthly electric bill which was previously roughly around £25-£35 per month all year round, was paying £39 per month dd,is now £98 which is a 151% rise???
monetary amounts are meaningless without us knowing your meter readings (i.e. how many units are you are using)

I have only recently managed to log in to my British Gas account so I couldn’t up it previously, but I have emailed them to check my account as it can’t be right can it??
    It can absolutely be right.

Tell us your meter readings between a number of dates (ideally a year difference) and we can tell you the amount you should be paying per month.

This explains some of the increase. Most accounts at this time of year are 2-3 months in credit.
