Not happy with decorator work what to do

A decorator that I have used twice before has come back to do some more work for us.
She gave me a quote of £500-625 for the work which included papering a wall in the hall and a wall on the landing plus some paintwork

The papering I’m not happy with I’ll add photos. In the hallway when they have cut the paper for the light switches they have obviously used a knife and scratched all the chrome switches.  The paper was approx £55 per roll and there’s not enough left for me to redo the bits I’m not happy with. I have received the invoice today and it’s for £625 what would you do re deductions

That's rather poor workmanship! She hasn't even matched the join up!

You need to ask her to come back and complete the work to a satisfactory standard, and replace the light switch that has been scratched!

Tell her you are happy to pay the invoice once the work has been completed properly.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • It’s 3 switches that are marked in total. I’ll also have to purchase more wallpaper and would rather just rectify myself as I’m good at wallpapering just short on time

Would you make deductions off the invoice? If so what do you think is fair

I think you would have to give the decorator a chance to rectify the problems first before starting to deduct.
  • Ok so at whose cost for replacement wallpaper? The decorator?

Yes the decorator should pay for any replacement roles needed. Let them know where they can buy it!

If they refuse to rectify it then you can negotiate on what you pay which will mean working out how much it will cost you to put right.
