Insuring your car for carers - limits on number of drivers

Options
Which companies allow more than 4 or 5 named drivers on a car policy? Setting aside specialist car insurance for disabled people and any-driver policies, which are way too expensive, how do people insure a car for a disabled person with carers? I share a car with my daughter, we are both disabled and neither of us is able to drive, it is our own car, not a motability car. I have to be the policy holder, even though I don't drive. I am not listed as the main driver. We have a relative insured and 2 carers. So we can only go out in the car when there is an insured person available. This must be disability discrimination.

To be honest, any policy allowing for 4 or 5 named drivers is likely to be effectively an 'any driver' policy, usually with restrictions - at work, we have had 'A D over 25 who has held a UK driving licence for more than 12 months (could be more) and with no more than 6 points on their licence'. It's now us who 'police' this rather than the insurance company.

And even though it is 'A D' they will want some drivers named.

I'd suggest contacting a broker: the online comparison tools are unlikely to work in such a situation, but a broker will know which companies might be worth approaching. I've used A-Plan insurance in the past, for example.

Won't their own insurance cover them?

I can drive any car third party on my policy with the owner's permission.

Other drivers probably can drive the OP's car, but it is, as you note, third party cover. In the event of any accident caused by the OP's driver, it would mean that the insurance would not cover repairs to the OP's car. I wouldn't drive another car on that basis unless it was an absolute emergency.
