Had an email from BG and their standing charge quote appears to be higher than the price cap, which seems odd what do I do ?
I've attached first Martin's price cap from here and BG's quote.

For the record I'm the South West - Cornwall, (Western Power area)

My Current fixed until 31 May 2023 (Exclusive 23v1) is   :

Unit rate: 33.23565 p per kWh
Standing charge: 58.4745 per day.

Price cap from 1 October 2022:
(From MSE)

British Gas quote

That is the old October cap detail - from before Liz's new scheme.

None of the suppliers have sorted their new tariffs yet, and the scheme doesn't start until 1 October.

Having seen Spoonie below - I've read that upside down - ignore my comment.
  • The quoted single cap figure is a regional average.  Electricity standing charge varies wildly by region.
  • Looking at the old data - South Western was scheduled to have the highest electricity standing charge of all the regions - wouldn't surprise me if it still did under the new cap then.

One of the points in the fact sheet was that standing charges under the price guarantee will be as per the October price cap already announced and the SW standing charge, the most expensive, was 52.643p on that document.  The cheapest standing charge is London at 33.156p although they are not the cheapest overall cap price.

Waiting for some industry type to say it is only 50p a day - oldest con in the world taking a few pence off a lot of people.
  • How do British Gas get a total of £1,117.26 on the Exclusive May 23v1 I tariff ?
    Seems off to me.

  • Thank you folks for clearing that up. Seems unfair but I guess the cables are longer and higher cable losses.
BG's numbers don't seem to add up eigher, the estimated costs doesn't work out correctly using the figures shown, maybe that's what they mean by estimated :#

    It is, 365 days X £0.33236 = £213.43375 + 2350 X £0.33236 = £781.046

Total of £994.47975 not  £1,117.26 as BG states

I've found the same with my own quote and BG's maths. It's all very odd.

Have BG given the variable rate for gas as from Oct 1 yet. I still cannot work out of my fix is dearer than the new rate since the new Truss cap.
