You might want to investigate credit unions which still have a tighter connection to their relevant communities.
Provided you don't mind your neighbours knowing your financial business.
I'm not suggesting anything improper, but when the tellers are your neighbours, and the manager is your local Councillor it's hard for them to not know.

The tellers and manager could still be your neighbours if it was a bank.
They could be, but I've never recognised anyone at any of the many banks I've used, but have known many at my local Credit Union (in other contexts) for years.

Ah, but when working in a bank everyone wears disguises. False noses and moustaches usually. And that's just the ladies.

If I had go to the counter to withdraw anything higher than that I'd WANT to be questioned to be reassured my bank takes me personal and financial safety seriously.
You might as a child but most people posting on this forum are adults and do not want the hired help asking customers impertinent questions about their personal finances.

The op seems to be missing the point

of course it is their money and they can do what they want with it, including spending it without being asked what they are using it for

But in that case they should keep it in 10 pound notes at home or whatever

if they choose to avail themselves of a banking service then they need to abide by the terms and conditions of that banking service which will include questions such as these

If you have enough money the private banks will offer what you are Looking for.
Otherwise, it’s an anonymous business in banking these days.

I suspect it's not the sort of 'old fashioned bank' the OP is hankering after though.
And it will depend on where the OP is in the country - Metro is still pretty much for those living in the south of the country, there are hardly any branches in the north.

They seem to want one that's not closing branches and doesnt ask questions when you take large amounts of cash out. A qiuick google shows that Metrobank has 78 branches vs Barclays that has 786. Even if Metrobank aren't closing branches they are still far less common. Any bank will ask questions about large cash withdrawals.
