It would just get ignored. There is a mass of information available, in every format and on every medium. People who aren't interested won't suddenly pay attention because some celebrity sticks their face on it.
Especially given that nowadays people treat "my mate Dave read on Twitter" as the pinnacle of good quality investigation.6 -
Ah well. But depressing tho that something that seems so obviously easy (get this information from in here to all of there) should be so tricky to implement….Honesty is the best poverty.0

If people don't want to be helped then you can't help them, all the information people need is freely available in multiple easy to consume ways. If people do not want to hear the message then they will change channel, click skip on the add, swipe the ad away, not read the article/leaflet etc.YoungBlueEyes said:Ah well. I am sure I read somewhere that the government is planning a public information campaign for this winter, giving tips to reduce energy consumption which I believe will include advice on setting thermostats etc etc. Can't remember where I read it. It will be interesting to see what media they use.1

Get David Attenborough to make a programme from an environmental, rather than cost perspective. He seems well respected by all - look at the impact his Blue Planet show had on public opinion about plastic usage.2

I hope you're right lindatoo, something would be better than nothing.....
Good idea TheBanker, I'll ring him now ha haa.
It would need the right face and a careful presentation, but I think this would be the quickest and easiest way to reach an awful lot of people.Honesty is the best poverty.0 -
If the government want to provide practical advice, they should recruit the TV companies to weave some tips into the storylines of the soaps. And if you want to influence the young, sign up some of the YouTube and Instagram Influencer generation. There are many ways to educate people... but I am not sure the government really do want to provide practical advice, sadly.2

Soap storylines is a really good idea. Yeah I doubt that a government film would be the most effective either.Honesty is the best poverty.0

I'm pretty sure I heard mention of this plan on Radio 4 last Thursday.lindatoo said:I am sure I read somewhere that the government is planning a public information campaign for this winter, giving tips to reduce energy consumption which I believe will include advice on setting thermostats etc etc. Can't remember where I read it. Thats good, let's hope it's not a damp squib full of hand wringing and caveats. It needs to be crisp and hard hitting.lindatoo said:I am sure I read somewhere that the government is planning a public information campaign for this winter, giving tips to reduce energy consumption which I believe will include advice on setting thermostats etc etc. Can't remember where I read it. Remember the 1976 advice? Bath in 1" of water - that's the kind of significant clear and hard-hitting stuff we need. First action should be to advise thermostats to be set to 17-19C maximum - they have already done this in Germany. Showers, cookers, dishwashers and tumble dryers should also have significant, practical, clear advice. First point of advice should be not to use tumble dryers and dishwashers etc0
