Parking Eye Aldi Car Park - No return within 4 hours but left within 1-2 mins after reading the sign

Hi, I parked in an Aldi Car park earlier today (a private car park controlled by Parking Eye which is free for a 1.5 hours max stay and no return within 4 hours).  I then did some shopping for about 40 mins and left.

I then returned about 40 mins later and wasn't sure at the time what the rules were about returning.  On the entrance to the car park you only see this sign (see 1st pic below) which says nothing about "no return within" it just says to read the signage in the car park.  So I parked up and immediately got out to read the other signs which you can only see once you're already in the car park and parked up (see the 2nd pic below of one of them which is on the back of the entrance sign - the others are nailed to the fence you can see in the background of the 1st pic).  I then realised and got back in the car and drove out of the car park, I was probably only about 1-2 mins in the car park at most.  Since it's ANPR monitored do you think I'll get a ticket or is there usually a grace period for the "no return within" rule?  Or would they argue that I should have looked at the signage the first time that I parked and not then returned later at all?  It seems pretty unfair to not mention it on the entrance sign so maybe if I do get a ticket I should appeal it?

If the keeper gets a PCN/NTK, then they should enact Plan A, which is a complaint to the store manager/CEO/landowner, their MP, and ask for it to be forwarded to the Didcot MP.

If Aldi don't want people to spend money in their stores, or come back and complain when they have been overcharged or sold shoddy or out of date goods in breach of the consumer rights act, then they should close, not inflict an unregulated private parking company upon prospective customers.

If Plan A fails, then the keeper should appeal using the template in blue text from the NEWBIES, and add a one liner asking for proof that the Ts and Cs apply to two a different drivers.

And remove all "I" from your post. Parking Eye might be watching !

  • If one is unable to read the terms and conditions until one has actually driven back into the car park then it is entrapment.

I doubt there will be a PCN unless PEye let the ANPR images default to 'first in last out' and wrongly declare that you overstayed the1.5 hours (from the first entry to last exit).

Or if there was a hidden keypad to claim the free time inside Aldi, and you didn't see it.

Either way this is obviously appealable or can be squashed like a gnat by Aldi when you complain. Keep your shopping receipt and see what happens for a month.

We assume your logbook has the right address showing on it? People miss PCNs by not updating logbooks when moving house.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

  • I had the same situation as you today, have you received a ticket?  4 hours to return is easy to make mistakes. 🙁
