What happens when changing ISP? What does the ISP do?

Hi,
Always wondered what happened when you change to a different ISP regarding the ISP side. So they send you a new modem/router which has your login details programmed for the new network. On the switchover date, do they just activate those login details and that's it, when you plugin your modem/router it just connects to your new ISP with the just activated login details? Or does the ISP need to activate anything extra to make it work?
All assuming there's no physical changes required (so changing from ADSL to ADSL or FTTP to FTTP).
Thanks!

When your old router loses connection with the internet, you replace it with the new one and connect all your devices to it.Not sure how this works when you have numerous 'smart' devices, not just few of them.0

It depends: not all ISPs offer a new modem/router. If they don’t, you just change the ISP login details in your existing router.0

Whenever I get a new router, I always set up beforehand with exactly the same SSID/Password/LAN parameters as the old router. That way there is no need for existing devices to be reconfigured.2

Not known one that doesn't send you a new router. You just log on with the provided password and off you go. Your smart devices will need to log into the new WiFi password, or, you can try naming the WiFi ssid the same as the old with the old password used in the new router Either way, it doesn't take long, I have 18 devices logged into mine and I've just changed routers. took about 10 minutes to just log all back in.

Change the password in the router to old one, then all the other 8/9 connections will be ok.0

At least one router I've had in the past had no configuration option for username and password, so using on a different ISP that required this to be changed would have been impossible.0

Other than that the OP's questions have been answered. So what you are saying in effect is that the router holds the ISP's server IP address and they do not need to set up access to the server.............So anybody can connect if they know the address and pick the ISP of your choice......and carry on ...?0 -
