The electricity part of 2nd generation smart meter hasn’t worked since it was installed 2 years ago. Getting nowhere with the energy provider as they said there is nothing they can do. Apparently sonething to do with the signal hub. Has anyone experienced something similar? Would a new smart meter fix it? Is there an organisation I could complain to? Any advice welcomed Thank you

If the comms hub cannot connect to the network used in your location due to a lack of signal then there is nothing that can be done.
If you have gas as well and your energy supplier is getting readings automatically from that then it suggests that their is a fault with the electricity meter or its connection to the comms hub which they should investigate.0 -
Thank you. The gas is working. Smart meter in the area is working for other households. They say they cannot fix it, but it has been so long now and I would like the issue to be resolved. Should they change the smart meter?0

Should they change it? That depends. Can you still read the meter yourself and submit accurate readings in the same way you would if it wasn't a smart meter?N. Hampshire, he/him. Yes I can use read meter like a old type meter. But I cannot benefit from the advantage of a smart meter.0

In which case no, they're currently under no obligation to replace it.nonolerigolo said:Yes I can use read meter like a old type meter. But I cannot benefit from the advantage of a smart meter.

Comms hubs are the responsibility of the DCC not individual suppliers. There is an ongoing problem with some WNC1 comms hubs that only the hub manufacturer can fix with a firmware update.nonolerigolo said:The electricity part of 2nd generation smart meter hasn’t worked since it was installed 2 years ago. It will need to negotiate with the DCC over a comms hub fix or hub replacement. Your meters work independently of the comms hub.0 -
Unfortunately I don't think the energy providers particularly care whether they work or not from the customer end, as long as they get the readings somehow. They are just filling a government directive to fit smart meters by a certain date0
