There is an argument that export prices under the SEG scheme need to be reviewed. At the moment, Ofgem allows ‘suppliers’ to set their own SEG rates which vary from very little to 30 minute pricing (Octopus Agile Outgoing).
It suits the suppliers to keep these prices low.
I have suggested to the Competition and Markets Authority that whilst direct collusion is deemed to be anti-competitive then the same argument can be applied to tacit collusion. It follows, in my view, that there needs to be a CMA competition inquiry into the SEG scheme.I would urge those on SEG only payments to make a similar approach to the CMA. The contact email is on the CMA website. The FIT Scheme is different in that it is a contract between the generator and the Government administered by some suppliers. The rates of the annual increase is set out in the original contract.2
