I was gifted an Epson xp 512  printer.It will accept compatible cartridges and every thing shows up on  the status monitor but it will only print blank paper! any ideas anyone ?

What comes out?  does the printer make all the noises?

If so (or if certain colours are missing) that suggests the print heads are blocked, so complete head cleaning.

thanks for that friend.I tried the webpage and all I get is blank sheets of paper.The printer spools the paper through ok but no printing-rubbish bin time I suppose

A problem with all inkjet printers where the printhead is part of the printer instead of part of the cartridge.  Use them regularly they are fine, infrequent use often causes the head to block with dried up ink.

My old Epson had the best quality print.  Unfortunately my need for regular use dropped and it soon clogged up.

Maybe a cleaner cartridge is available - just checked Ebay and they cost £20 so an expensive gamble as a printer can be had for under £30.

You might as well run repeated print head cleaning cycles with the ink you have before binning it.

use brother printers, leave them on they do management cycles if the printer is not used.

Uses up ink but you don't get the print issues.

Like the convenience of being able to print whenever we want with no delays from any device.

Compatible are cheap enough to keep costs <£10 a year including all the printing we do(for the ink).
Electric use is on the audit list to see what that will be costing.

slight update-my bro -who gave me the printer- found an unused still sealed compatible black cart and when I stuck that in its still firing blanks!
