CCJ - Credit Score

Options
Good afternoon,

Short story on the CCJ: One was issued against me and I only found out by a chance credit check. Basically I told the parking company I'm moving address, then several years later they still used my old address meaning a CCJ was issued against my name I knew nothing about until recently.

Fast forward to today, I've submitted an N244 form to be set aside 3 weeks ago. But perhaps not fully thinking (not that I should have to consider stuff like this through some cowboy incompetence), but I applied for a new phone through my business on 0% finance and it got rejected. Shows the level my credit score has been trashed by these horrible people.

Now I'm a bit concerned, when you apply for finance they ask "have you ever been refused credit before", well now technically I have. So once the CCJ goes from the record, will I still be left with a negative mark against my name saying I was refused? and my company?

I'm not entirely sure how its linked, as I have one business with my wife, and another with a business partner, but its clearly been rejected based on my personal CCJ.

Thanks all

Ignore your score, it's meaningless.  But a CCJ will be visible on your credit history, and is generally viewed very negatively by most lenders.  If it is successfully set-aside then it is removed from your files.
Your record will not show that you have been refused credit.  Future lenders will be able to see that a credit search was performed, but not the outcome of it.

I wouldn't say it's very common for lenders to ask if you've ever been refused credit.  My experience has been that they may ask if you've ever had a CCJ or been insolvent and if the CCJ is set aside you can truthfully answer no to that.

Insurers ask if you've ever been refused insurance though.

Yes you are.  Focus on getting it removed, and your record cleaned up. It'll take a couple of months to show on your reports once you've done your set aside (assuming it'll be granted - but from what you say - you informed them, and they didn't take note) - the court will remove the record at their next round of updates. This only happens once a month - so depending on where in the cycle you fall, will depend on when it gets taken off your files. The files you see (if you're using the free reports) might then take a few more weeks to clear, even though it's technically gone.  By then, the search from your current phone application will be a bit more historical, and you can try again.
