From the official government site:flossy_splodge said:Sorry but I have had it confirmed by BG that the money is in effect a retrospective payment for high costs already incurred?
"The £400 discount, administered by energy suppliers, will be paid to consumers over 6 months with payments starting from October 2022, to ensure households receive financial support throughout the winter months."
From the Chancellor:
"We know that people are struggling with rising energy prices which is why we have taken action with support over the winter months to help ease the pressure on household budgets."
From the Energy Secretary:
"This significant £400 discount on energy bills we’re providing will go some way to help millions of families over the colder months."
I don't know where the random BG customer service rep gets their information from, but everything official says that it is to be paid over the winter to help with bills over the winter - nothing retrospective about it.2 -
Hi,and from BG,How will I receive the discount? If you have a traditional prepayment meterYou’ll get your discount via vouchers, which you can then cash in when you top-up in your normal way. Once the discount has been received by you in full, your meter payments will revert back to normal. What happens if I am moving home?If your housing situation changes during the six-month period, you will still benefit from the payments that you are due. The scheme is based on six monthly qualifying dates, rather than on a single date in October, so eligible households can still benefit from the relevant portion of the total £400.How much will I get?Every household will get £400, paid over six months starting from October 2022. So you’ll get the following each month:
October £66 November £66 December £67 January £67 February £67 March £67
