Magnet kitchen - deposit paid but price not fixed?

Options
Hi there,

We bought a Magnet kitchen earlier and paid the deposit to secure the deal they had on at that time. We advised that we wouldn't need the kitchen until later on and they said that was fine and that they'd need 6 weeks notice to get it made, etc. I called last week to advise them of when we were getting work done and they said that as they've changed suppliers of the worktop this item had gone up in price...

The quote we were provided has no mention of any items being subject to change in price (except VAT), and at no point was this possibility mentioned to us. We had to pay the deposit to secure the deal, so as far as i'm concerned that price is locked in. Any thoughts on where i stand here? I.e., can i call and tell them they need to honour the price quoted?

Thanks all!

No reference to a fixed time period for the price on the paperwork?

Is the worktop a different product (because different supplier), therefore it would be understandable that he price has had to be changed?
  • No reference to a fixed time period...only that to secure the quote i needed to pay the deposit by a certain date.

The worktop was part of the quote and isn;t changing in spec, it's just that Magnet have changed their supplier for the item...i'm guessing there are various suppliers involved for separate items of the quote (i.e. units, taps, extractor, etc.), but surely the risk of price change sits with them?

In the situation described I would certainly be asking the question of Magnet.  However, you need to be prepared for them to say they will return the deposit instead of honouring the original quote.
