Pick up Manchester airport

I have to collect my son from T3 Manchester airport about 9pm Friday evening. I know there is a 30 minutes pick up for £6 but since it is a 2 hour drive from home I was planning to drive to somewhere close by such as a retail park then have a coffee & get a few things till I know he is through immigration etc. Trouble is I am struggling to find anywhere within a short drive that has a coffee shop open till 9pm. Any suggestions?

Are there any supermarkets nearby that aren't infested by a PPC and/or have a cafe? Alternatively, are there any where you could perhaps buy a drink and sarnies to have in your car, without the risk of getting a PCN?

From which direction are you approaching the airport?  If it's from the west, there's Chester Services on the M56 which is only 35 minutes to the airport. Good timing if your son phones you immediately on landing and exiting the aircraft.

Even if not approaching from the west, you could still drive to the Services, coffee up and await the call.

I don't know where you live but there is a regular bus service from Buxton to Manchester Airport. There are a number of stops on the way and they leave Buxton about every 30 minutes.

  • Thanks. It looks like early morning pick up is easier than late evening - more places open. The other option someone suggested was take a flask of coffee and go do the shopping in M&S Handforth Dean. Worth a thought
