As others have said, a DoV may be the best option - it's operates (for IHT purposes) as if the money had been left to yourchildnre directly rather than to you, wheras if it goes to you andyou then gift it to them it can potentially be included in your estate for IHT purposes when you die.

Deprevation of assets would bean issue if you need to pay for care, or if you were to claim means-tested benefits, and it appared that you would reasomnablyu have known that the money would be needed .

The criteria the council should / would consider would be
    1. Whether you knew or should have known at the time you got rid of your property or money that you needed or may need care and support
    2. Avoiding paying for care was a significant reason for giving away your home or reducing your savings.
It doesn't sounds as though that is the case here but you mayu want to leave a note with you will setting out roughtly what your other assets are worth soif it is raised, you or your attorney / executor can show that atthe time you madethe gifts you were in a psotion to self fund if you needed to.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

As you have the residential NRB as spouse check that gifting to your children does not break the closely inherited rules
