Can someone explain Virgin Money's confusing dual system?

I have Virgin's Current and M Saver accounts which I can view and transact with on the Virgin Money app.

I have Virgin ISAs which require a web login with different credentials.

I've just opened a Cash ISA Exclusive and this is showing in the app?

The two systems don't seem to interact. Is this a legacy systems/ Clydesdale / Yorkshire bank thing?

It's very irritating!

The current account and linked savings accounts will be on Clydesdale's digital banking platform, the standard cash ISAs will be on the old Northern Rock/Virgin Money platform. When CYBG took over Virgin Money, the plan was to migrate all current and savings accounts from the Virgin platform to the Clydesdale digital platform over the first 3 years of the merged bank. Covid would have delayed that and I don't know if that migration is still the plan.

There are actually three systems (four if you count the credit card app). The third is for the old branch based passbook accounts which have no online access whatsoever.
  • Strange. I can view and interact with my VM Current account, savings accounts and Exclusive Cash ISA all within the one app and login!

Exclusive ISAs and the linked saver are on the app and new current account login but other savings accounts and ISAs are only on the old savings platform.
  • Still not sorted any ISAs with a sort code of 08 are still not visible on the app . Surely they can’t be using Covid as the excuse still !

Given the recent news I would temper any expectation of further integration within Virgin Money, at least until the transaction completes (or not) when the new (or old) management will no doubt make clear their intentions.

I agree it's really annoying and I hate logging in.

Multiple logins is because of all the separate legacy brands etc yes.

So original Virgin, Northern Rock, Clydesdale, Yorkshire, B, the newer Virgin  possibly others.

COVID was the excuse, don't know if that's still the excuse.

And Nationwide want to take over Virgin so that's going to be even more of a headache if that happens.

At one point I had 08 sort code VM savings accounts online. I also had a VM credit card which was app only. And finally I have 05 sort code M plus current and savings accounts alongside exclusive ISA savings on the VM app and online. Hence three completely separate VM platforms at the same time

All of these accounts had very specific attributes and to my mind it was immaterial that they were all Virgin Money. I regarded each of the three platforms as different banks.

It did not annoy or frustrate me I just did whatever was necessary to manage the accounts. In fact I would not want them amalgamated. Particularly the 08 login which still has about 20 closed accounts there as read only.

I have a current account and two savings accounts, opened in the last year or two. All 82- -  sort code and all on the same app. Very easy to use and better than many others. But I understand the frustration if you are also on the "old" systems, they might as well be separate banks still!
